Centering Youth Voices in Human Rights Education and Advocacy
With the approaching 30th anniversary of the landmark international Convention on the Rights of the Child, we invite educators and community-based practitioners to join us for a day-long workshop focused on creating opportunities for youth leadership and voice in classrooms and community-based organizations.
In recent years, young people all over the world have become more engaged in advocacy and activism on issues such as the climate crisis, criminal justice, gun violence, and immigrant and refugee rights. To support their efforts, schools and communities can partner to provide students with the knowledge, values, and skills necessary to create meaningful civic participation and engagement.
This workshop will bring together classroom educators, community-based practitioners, and youth leaders to explore centering youth voices in human rights education and advocacy.
Participants will:
• Gain knowledge on contemporary human rights issues, with a special emphasis on the rights of children and youth
• Discuss and practice how to make your classroom/community more welcoming to Youth Voices/Youth Leadership
• Participate in collaborative conversations and build partnerships among classroom teachers and community practitioners
• Apply your learning in dialogue with workshop leaders and youth participants • All levels of experience welcome

UConn Early College Experience (ECE) is a concurrent enrollment program that allows motivated high school students to take UConn courses at their high schools for both high school and college credit. Every course taken through UConn ECE is equivalent to the same course at the University of Connecticut. Students benefit by taking college courses in a setting that is both familiar and conducive to learning.
High school instructors who have been certified through the University of Connecticut teach UConn ECE courses.
Established in 1955, UConn Early College Experience is the nation's longest running concurrent enrollment program and is nationally accredited by The National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP).
